Q16 - What are the benefits of buying one of these hand-painted, privacy screens?

A1 - Simply put, it's only painted on one side. Most buildings are darker on the inside of the structure, which enables the painting to be seen on the outside only.

ALSO:  Screens can be painted with the same image on both sides for a very dramatic view especially at night with a light on from the inside!

Some people love the whole concept of painting the image on the inside only, if anything, to astound their friends when they are able to see the transition from hardly anything to full scale "WOW!", once the sun sets and your interior lights go on!

A2 - All screens are painted by hand with a brush, signed, and dated by the artist.

A3 - Most of our screens are painted on polyvinyl. Although, painting on wire mesh is definately do-able.

A4 - Absolutely not. There is no change in the air flow whatever. During the processes of painting the screen, if any holes do temporarily get plugged up, I use my trusty ol' friend, the wooden toothpick, to open up that area.

A4a - We use an industrial grade latex enamel which is designed to last against outdoor exporsure.

A5 - We use two types of screens for our paintings (unless otherwise specified) they are; "Super Density" and "Pet Density". Both are made of tear resisitant poly fibers that will last for years. The Super Density is similar to your average sheerness that's probably on your door or window, but it is 6 times stronger. The Pet Density's sheerness is thicker and 10 times stronger, and suggested whenever a dog or cat lives with you at your home or business.

A6 - When ordering your screen from our Store you will see the easy instructions pertaining to your framing size. After determining whether your painted screen is for a door, or window, or wallhanging we ship the sized painted screen to you. You may choose to do the installation yourself or you may take your screen and frame to a local hardware or screen replacement store for installation at a minimal fee. Please remember these are tear resistant so don't be concerned with the screen being ripped during installation. Check your local listing for Screen Mobile and they will come right to your door and do it on site! If you live on the Delmarva pennisula, please click here to send the locally owned and operated Screen Mobile an email.

A7 - Yes! You may have a particular window area that you just don't want to drape with a fabric or are looking for an alternative to a valance, or simply want to spruce up your blinds that you already have in place. We can make a design for you anywhere in your home or business on any kind of screen, scrim, or whatever!

A8 - We've painted on as small as 8" x 11" window screens up to background sets for cabaret shows. Single doors, double doors, and whole porches look spectacular! Check them out on our website!

A9 - Yes. You can roll them up. No. The paint won't wear off.

We use industrial grade latex enamels after each screen has gone through the first phase of priming. Then, after the painting process is completed we spray each screen with an industrial grade poly-spray (two coats in high gloss!). This gloss spray helps to defract any color loss as time goes on!

A10 - Once a year, maybe Spring, use a cleaning sponge, a bucket with warm water, and a drop or two of dish detergent. Wash down both sides of the screen(s). Let them air dry. Get a can of polyeurathene spray in "gloss" finish. Put another protective coat of the spray on the screen to help keep those rich colors like new! I have customers who haven't done anything to their screens for over 5 years and and they still look great!

A11 - I guarantee the painted screen to last as long as the life of the screen. I've replaced some screens from the second generation screen painters in Baltimore with newly painted screens. These screens were 40+ years and the image was still very visible on the screen! Just like a good vintage wine, it ages gracefully. Mind you, I could poke a hole through these screens with my finger but the image was still there! The first and second generation screens have become collectors items to many people in the Baltimore area if anything for sentimental reasons.

A12 - Hopefully while you are scrolling through the screen pictures something may tweak your interest. If you have your own design, we'll use it! The design is usually the least difficult part to figure out! We sell them for a variety of uses. Wall hangings, door dividers, blinds, windows, doors, ... the possibilities are endless!

Remember, you can put your screen behind a glass partition, like a storm door. We can sew a seam on the top and the bottom of your screen painting then you can use a thin dowel to attach or simply use little suction cups with hooks on all four sides of the screen and stick it on the glass!

A13 - Example: If you have a sliding screen door, get your tape measure and measure the top to bottom length where the screen meets the inside of your door. Do the same for the sides as well. We will paint the screen at least a full two inches wider, so when you take the old screen out yourself or take the screen to your local hardware store so it can be easily sized into place without compromising the painted scene.
